not sure why the pics below are so small!! potty training plan b was not a success either. we tried putting micah in underwear (he calls them underweary). He would have walked around dirty all day if we had let him. we are now moving on to a sticker chart! i know he can do this. Sam is now babbling all day long and he will say baba, dada, mama and uh oh. he has four teeth and weighs almost 20 lbs. Micah loves celebrating birthdays and will tell you the month of every member of our family's birthday (including grandparents and aunts/uncles). He also loves to say "micah is so handsome". he must drink water at dinner from his "miss state cup" is the most picky eater ever. We are looking forward to seeing Jason and suzanne and all of the rest of our family for Thanksgiving. more pics to follow...

tailgating. micah and his cousin Emily Katherine

Granny and some of her great grandkids
My 94 year-old granny is so spunky. she walks every single day and was a big help with my kids!

Coleman was a great babysitter at our friend tailgate.

We had a blast tailgating with friends and family before the state/florida game. Neither of my kids had a nap (for the first time in their lives!) but they hung in there pretty well and had a good time.

potty training, ugh!

my family at the pumpkin patch

We have been sorta putting this off for a while, but it is time to get started. Micah has NO clue when he is peeing, so someone suggested letting him run around naked so he will see it when it happens. So, all halloween weekend we have had a little half naked boy (he got to wear a shirt) running around our house. So far, he as soiled his rug, the rug in the den and the front door mat. Any luck going in the potty, you ask? NO! He did say he was peeing yesterday and when Trip asked if he wanted to go to the potty he said, "no I'm all done." I think he prefers the diaper! This should explain the bottomless pics below. I censored them as best I could.

micah's souvenir

LOVES hats and shoes. I guess little boys can have fun with accesories too. In the middle of this video he spots himself in the window and you can tell he is watching while singing. he's a mess. Please pay no attention to the country singin' female in the background, she sounds awful! video

We went to Atlanta last weekend to celebrate Maggie and Trip's birthdays. It was a great time and we learned alot about the Shriners as they were having their national convention in our hotel. Very interesting! After a nice relaxing day at the pool we caught the Marta to the Braves game.

Happy Birthday Aunt Maggie!

WE had a great time at Buddy and Zay Zay's house for maggie's 30th bday celebaration. Can't believe I didn't get a single pic of the birthday girl. The kids have taken over for sure. Micah insisted on blowing out the candles and thought the cake was his too.

All aboard the blanket train! The boys were so entertained by this. They had a blast, expecially Chase.

Sunday morning fun

We woke up this morning with fresh donuts delivered to our front porch by Buddy!!! They were delicious, thanks Buddy!

All ready for church.

performing for the camera...

Everything is "big boy" these days. Micah sits at the table in his new "big boy" chair and sleeps in the new big boy bed. he is such a chatterbox and now whenever we get the camera out he automatically starts singing his "abc's". We have a new obsession with videos. obviously. video

Update

The boys are just getting so big all of a sudden. Micah moved into his "big boy" twin bed this week without a hitch! He loves it and so far hasn't tried to get out. Sam turned six months old today. He is such a happy baby and laughs outloud all the time. We are all getting plenty of sleep these days with both boys sleeping 12 hrs/night. It is great! We are so excited about the first state game. It is on Trip's bday, so if anyone else is gonna be there let me know. We will be child-free for the day/night.

I will post pics of Micah's new room when I get a chance. It is still a work in progress.

Dr. Malone (the man who signs my paycheck!) turned 50 on July 10th. We made dozens of signs and hung them outside and all over the office. We cut out black crows for weeks behind his back. dingleberries (yes, it's what you think it is)

Funny story from the other night. We had just given the boys a bath together and I had Sam, towel, diaper in my arms. Here is how it went down:

Courtney: Trip can you grab sam's pajamas, my hands are full.
Trip: sure, where are they? Does he need long sleeves or a onesie, etc?
Courtney: Long sleeves, I guess.
Trip: Here ya go. Oh I forgot I had a naked baby in the other room! He sure is quiet in there. Let me go check on him.
Micah: running and laughing
Trip: oh my gosh there is a terd on the floor!
Courtney (still with hands full): Ahhh, he stepped in it and it's all over his foot!
Micah: still laughing and unaware and now climbing into his chair
Courtney: Oh no there is still some stuck to his bootie!
Trip: freaking out and looking for a wipe
Courtney: laughing so hard I almost drop the baby
Micah was sitting happily in the chair at this point. We were so stunned that we didn't even know where to start. EWWWWWWWWWWW!

I don't think we are quite ready for potty training!

Saturday in the Park

We have what Trip and I call "family day" once a week. Sometimes getting both kids packed up and ready to go is alot of trouble, but we usually have a great time. Last weekend we went to the park and had a snack/picnic. Sam slept most of the time during the outing...
Micah and Trip waded in the very cold creek

This dog was so big. The picture doesn't do him justice. I couldn't believe how big his paws were.

Micah playing soccer with this little boy

Little man finally woke up and was all smiles.

Easter 2009

He got three baskets this year. One from us and one from each set of grandparents. Easter was a whirlwind of egg hunting, going to church and eating good food. We are so blessed to have our families so close to us during the holidays. It is so special for the kids. Nana had a really cute Easter table set. You can see the basketball on the highchair. Micah must have a ball in hand at all times during the day. He got football, baseball, basketball and soccerball eggs in his basket. We have to keep some in the tub, some downstairs for playtime, and some in the bed. He hoards three or four in his hands each night at bedtime and sleeps with them. We never knew this ball obsession would last so long!

My dad is already initiating Sam into his "all boys" fraternity. He grew up with two sisters and then had two daughters. Finally, he has some male family members. They spend most of their time squishing bugs, catching lizards, and going for walks through the neighborhood. I hear he has caught a turtle for Micah to have. So far the turtle is living off of dog food.

We woke up to snow pouring from the sky on Sunday! I was so beautiful and came down strong for about two hours. Micah loved playing in it and throwing snowballs.

MS will always be home at heart...

more randoms...

Micah came home from Granpop's (my dad) yesterday with a new injury. They are having way too much fun without us! He LOVES my dad. More regressing. This really is just a joke. He doesn't take a paci anymore and will gladly hand it over when we ask. It is just funny when he wants to play with Sam's things.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Giving Sam his pacifier.

Micah is really testing the waters these days. He climbs on the coffee table, tries to drink Sam's bottles and suck his pacis. Sometimes you have to choose your battles, right? I think he won this one.

Note the paci. Micah hasn't taken one since he was 9 months old.

Baby Sam

Samuel Ellis Malouf was born yesterday (Friday) February 6 at 1:29 PM. He was 6lbs 5oz and 19 and 1/2 in. We got to the hospital Thursday night around 8pm b/c I was having contractions and the Dr. told me to just come in. WE were so glad to already be at the hospital and because I was scheduled for an induction the next morning anyway, they would keep me whether I was in active labor or not. Turns out I wasn't. So, the next morning they induced me around 7:15. By 8:45 I was in some major pain with the contractions so they gave me the epidural. Finally at 1:00 we were ready to push. I took one practice push and the nurse said, whoa let me call Dr. Brown. She barely had time to put her gloves on and had me push with the next contraction. I pushed for literally 5 seconds and she said "okay, you can relax". Seconds later Sam was crying in my arms! We are soooo thankful for his health and all of your thoughts and prayers.
Sam...

Micah
EVERYONE so far has agreed that Sam looks just like Micah did at birth. The only difference is Sam has darker and more hair and his eyes are much darker.

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

One last update...

Well it looks like Sam will be holding out until this Friday, Feb. 6th. We have set an induction for 6:30 am. Dr. Brown says we should have a baby by lunchtime! Please pray for a healthy baby and safe delivery. We are packed and ready to go. Below is his room, just waiting on his arrival! It was a very last-minute nursery. The chair will be red, but the new cushions haven't come in yet. Hopefully I will have pics and good news with the next blog!
Horrible lighting.

A few of my favorite things!

Micah is absolutely obsessed with balls. He sleeps with his "bootball" every night. He can say tennis ball, little ball and big ball too. It all started on his first birthday and he has been crazy over them ever since. The other night I had him on the changing table. He pointed to my belly and said "ball", "Big ball!" Hilarious. He copies everything Trip does which is how he has learned to swing a bat, golf club, throw balls, etc. Below are some recent pics at the park doing what he does best.

We took him to the zoo last weekend. I think it was probably our last outing with Micah as an "only child". Aww, sorta sad. He loves animals and petting the zoo pets was his favorite. He also loved watching all the "birs"

Every night he asks for his "baa". He goes in his room and gets his towel then plays in the 'bubbles" until we make him get out. We let all the water run out and he lays down and says "nigh nigh" in the tub.

36 weeks (well almost!)

Pregnancy #2 is rapidly coming to a close, wow. I will be 36 weeks on Saturday. We finally got the crib and furniture in the nursery. I waslooking back at my journal from Micah's pregnancy and the nursery was done at 34 weeks. This time I didn't even have a crib at 34 weeks! We now at least have the necessities like diapers, wipes and sheets on the bed. We have two nurseries set up right next to each other upstairs. It is so surreal to see their rooms. Dr. Brown set an induction date of Monday Feb. 9, but we may be moving it to Feb. 5. I'll post more after next week's visit.

Thursday, January 1, 2009

It has been a while since I updated. I am now 34 weeks and still feeling pretty good. Just a little less sleep at night. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Christmas and New year full of rest and family time. My how things have changed. Micah was sick the entire week before Christmas with RSV and an ear infection. His fever spiked to 105.5 one day! He was so lethargic and pitiful. Even though I work with sick kids every day it was very hard to be objective when it was Micah. Anyway, he is fine now and back to his old self. I just hope all those Christmas kisses he gave the twins didn't get them sick too!
I am still working 4 days a week and looking forward to some time off when baby Sam arrives. We still don't have a middle name. Trip thinks he doesn't need one. Not sure why we are having such trouble! Micah is nonstop all day unless he is asleep. I think I'm gonna have my hands full with him and a newborn!

A few extra Christmas pics

Chase and Ethan were so cute in their snowman pajamas. Micah would NOT participate in this photo session.

Micah's favorite thing to do with the twins is give them kisses. They don't seem to mind!

Who knew his favorite gift would be a singing Christmas card? He also loves his new chair. Every day when we get home he points to it and runs to jump in.

Grandpop's Last Day of Work

After 37 years at the Power Company, my dad is retiring. Micah and I decided to pay him a visit on his last day 12/31/08
A preview of what he will probably be doing at home now!

Happy New Year

On New Year's Day we took Micah on his second hiking trip at Oak Mountain. The waterfall was cold but very pretty. Micah just tried to go swimming with the dogs the whole time.
Our attempt at a group photo...

He couldn't walk the last time we took him! He loved being able to roam around. Note the milk in hand. His new security blanket. All day long he says "milk" and "bite" and "Melmo"

He was ticked when we loaded him up to go home even though his hands were almost frozen and he was out of milk!

A few randoms

Dewey has taught him how to load these guns and he loves playing with them.

wild man

Micah is now 17 months old and keeping us laughing all the time. I have been stopped up throughout this pregnancy and sneezing alot. He walks around the house going "achoo" . He is really into imitation right now. He loves to dance and can say his animal sounds like "mow" for cat, "uh uh" for dog, "baaa" sheep and "bop bop" for the bunny rabbit (supposed to be hop hop). I didn't take any pics at thanksgiving, but these are some of the most recent. He loves to get in his rocking chair and sway back and forth saying "tick tock tick tock"
Roasting marshmallows at my parents' house. He didn't like them at all!

Computer blues

Our laptop has been in the computer hospital this week, so I am unable to post pics. Therefore, you are stuck reading my rambling while I am at work. I will be 24 weeks tomorrow and still feeling great. I guess this is what a normal pregnancy feels like! Lovin' it. We have unofficially decided on the name Samuel for baby 2. We will call him "sam". Still struggling with a middle name, so please give me some suggestions! So far we like "parker" and trip likes "ellis" (still reaching for that family name).

Saturday, October 11, 2008

Just another Saturday...

We have been very busy lately with work, Micah, and pregnancy 2. Hence the slacking on the blog. Micah has been sick almost EVERY WEEK for a month! With my bedtime ranging from 6:30-8:00, not much computer time leftover. Anyway, everything is going well here. I am 22 weeks pregnant and growing rapidly. Micah has finally taken repeated independent steps (as of today), yeah! Here are a few pics from our walking/eating session earlier...

He looks disgusted with something! Actually, I think he was choking on this mouth-full of blueberry muffin.Chipmunk cheeks :)

It's a Boy!!!!!!!!!!

We found out Wednesday that we are having another baby boy. Trip and I can't wait for Micah and baby #2 to get to know each other. No names yet. I have told Trip he is in charge of naming this one and he has a deadline of Thanksgiving. We'll see! Most importantly, everything looked great on the ultrasound. He is measuring right at 18 weeks and five days which is exactly how far along I am. We thank God for our healthy baby and my healthy pregnancy. He has blessed us in so many ways...

We went to Jackson this weekend to see friends and hang out. I insisted on eating at Kiefer's since nothing in bham comes close. I was craving the pita mozz and it was soooooo good. They did not disappoint. Micah slept the entire 3 and 1/2 hours there and straight through lunch. He was so pitiful and had fever all weekend I felt so bad for traveling with him and exposing the other kids! He didn't get to play with Morgan Trusty much, but we enjoyed seeing her at lunch. We stayed with John and Lauren and got to see lots of friends and kids. Jas and Olivia have an awesome new house and two precious kids. It was great to see everyone. We miss our Mississippi friends!

I know this is gonna sound psycho, but I can't help it. I am now obsessed with reading this blog. I was playing around last night looking at random links from friends' blogs and I found one titled "Steece's Pieces". It is a fairly young couple with quadruplets. She and her husband are so cute and they seem to have a very happy, healthy relationship. Her quads are adorable and you should check out her blog. I think people even pay to advertise on her blog b/c so many people visit. Each post has like 80 comments. The link is http://thelifeofsuz.blogspot.com

Not the happiest camper. We found out a few days later he was sick with croup and his very first ear infection. Gotta love daycare.

some random pictures from June

He does this when we say "woo hoo!"

Visiting aunt Nat in the hospital. Her balloons kept him entertained and distracted him from wanting to pull lines, touch the blood pressure machine, and pretty much terrorize her entire room. He has always loved to prop his feet up in the highchair, stroller, etc. He gets it honest from me. Micah's First Swim

Well, we had big plans to go to the pool in my parents' neighborhood today, but unfortunately
afer we packed a huge bag (i didn't realize how complicated taking a baby swimming could be) and lathered on the sunscreen we drove down there to find the pool was closed this weekend. So... we improvised with a blowup pool from Target! He still had a blast.
Since we were among family, we decided to let him swim in the buff. He loved it!While he's naked, why not give him a bath?
Drying off with his Grandpop.

All clean and handsome.

most of our pics these days are action shots. Yes, Chloe has gained a few lbs. She started her diet last week. Poor girl. She loves to eat as much as her mommy.

Yes he is eating a leaf. I promise I didn't let him swallow any!

Whatup yo?

I wanted him to look extra special for his first day of daycare.

Learning to play pool at Dewey and Zada's

He really just chewed on the balls then threw them on the floor, then crawled from pocket to pocket scaring all of us when he got to the edge.

Getting ready for bed, what an adventure...

I was trying to get his pajamas on, but he is so active these days I can't keep him still long enough! He just wanted to play with his toys.
Finally got the shirt on.
Off to the races again. What's in here?
Animal crackers, yum.
Reading his 1-2-3 book in his flipper slippers from his aunt Rebecca and uncle Michael

His first wedding

We went to Hernando this weekend for Trip's cousin Amy's wedding. Micah did great and fell asleep at the reception. Doesn't aunt Maggie look great? I still can't believe she is having two!

Fun on Wednesday...

I am loving our time together on Wednesdays now that I'm off work. He got his first sucker today from my office and he is now obsessed. We got to see my friend Laura's new beautiful baby girl, Lanier. Finally, he practiced pushing the new gate down. Guess we will have to upgrade from the Walmart brand!

First Spaghetti meal...

When he started pulling up on things he couldn't figure out how to get back down. He would stand in his crib for an hour until we came and layed him back down. Now he bites the object (coffe table, crib, etc) and lowers himself with his mouth. So funny.

Easter 2008

We had so much fun with Micah on his first Easter. He loves to chew on plastic eggs and he cut his first tooth on 3/19/08. If you look closely you may be able to see it in the closeup pic. He cut a top tooth first, ha! Our pediatrician said it is the first time she has ever seen a child do that. It is so hilarious.

Micah's favorites

I love reading everyone's interesting facts about themselves, so I thought I would reveal Micah's top ten favorite things at 7 1/2 months of age...
10. His exersaucer. He loves to chew the attachments and watch Baby Bach in it.
9. Fruit. He can devour bananas and mango fruit any time any place.
8. Screaming/Squealing. He started this at around 4-5 months and still loves it. Especially on his changing table or stroller. We will be walking through WalMart or the mall and he is just squealing so loud. People laugh and I just look at them like "what can I do? "
7. Being naked. He starts kicking and flailing his arms around every time he gets undressed.
6. Mardi. They roll around on the floor together every day. Glad he isn't allergic to pets!s
5. Sleep. The kid takes two naps (usually two hours each) a day and sleeps 12-14 hours at night. Guess he got that from me!
4. Men. He seems to respond better to males. Makes the women so mad!
3. Chewing on everything. If he touches it, he will try to put it in his mouth.
2. Rolling. He has absolutely no interest in crawling yet. He just rolls from front to back until he gets where he wants to go. It is so funny.
1. Outdoors. If he is fussy, we can always calm him down by taking him outside. He loves to swing on the porch.

Picking him up after a long day of work...

We have been so busy during this flu season! Y'all wash your hands! Every week we say surely it can't get any worse, and then it does. Our office was actually broken into last weekend too. They stole our petty cash and went through our drug closet and crash cart. Too bad for them we don't keep any controlled substances in our office.

Playing with bubbles at Nana's house...

Micah's first snow!!

I don't think he liked the taste of snow too much.

We were so sad we missed the snow. Trip and I were actually swimming in the Bahamas during this time!

Just hanging out around the house

He is almost 8 months old now!

First meal in the highchair

The other morning I found him with his blankie wrapped on his head like a bandana. I thought it was so funny b/c it really wasn't staged and he looked like a gangsta.

In honor of my grandmother...

My grandmother died on Nov. 8, 2007. We spent our last Christmas in Ackerman and found these clothes while cleaning out her house. From left to right: My sister Natalie, my mom, my aunt Mary Paula, and me.

He rolled over for the first time on Oct. 18. It looks like his neck is broken!
He was laughing so hard! Maybe because this was the first time he sat up by himself. This is the "redneck" bumbo seat. Trip called it his big orange diaper.

Our pumpkin pie.

We took him on his first hiking trip Sunday, Oct. 28. We love to go to Oak Mountain with the dogs. Micah loves the outdoors too.

First taste of baby food.

His first Halloween costume.

One of my favorite "church" outfits. He has already outgrown this one.

Trip loves this picture. We put him in this bouncer for the first time and he wasn't quite big enough. He didn't know how to hold himself up, so he just chewed on the edge. He is teething and drooling so much right now!

Micah and Charlie Clark at MSU's Homecoming game. It was Charlie's 3rd Birthday. He has grown so much!

Go Dawgs!

Before the Tennessee game.

This is the most recent picture of him at 10 weeks. He loves to lay on this mat and stare at the duck.

Mesmerized by the light on the camera.

Daddy is really good at making him smile.

His first day of church. He was not happy at all when we put this outfit on him, ha! I think he looks like Trip in this picture.

I couldn't leave the dogs out. They have definitely taken a backseat to the baby, but we still spoil them. Mardi loves to steal our pillows. Not sure how Chloe ended up in this position, but we thought it was funny.

Our friend "uncle Chester" brought these pants for them to wear to the MSU/UAB game in 2006. Maybe they are good luck seeing as it was one of the few games we actually won last year.

I have no recent pictures of the two of us! This is from Justin and Jr.'s wedding weekend last year.
This picture was taken at Dewey and Zada's house. His first smiling pic. He smiles and laughs alot these days. You should see the crazy faces and goofy noises we are willing to make for him!

Me and the girls before the Vestavia 10 year reunion.

A cool fireworks picture from the top of my sister's news station in downtown Birmingham.

Four generations of "Burrises"

The South Trace Pediatric girls at the beach. I was 8 months pregnant. I felt Micah's hiccups for the first time on this trip.

Daddy giving him his first bottle. He was still pretty jaundiced at four days old. Look at those chicken legs!

He loves bathtime. At night when he is fussy or tired, we can always give him a bath to cheer him up.
The blog stuff is new to me, but I thought my long distance friends/family might enjoy pics of Micah. Hope I am doing this right!
